Responsible AI
Useful AI requires engineering judgment.
Responsible AI is not a separate layer added after the product works. It begins with deciding whether AI belongs in the workflow at all.
Principles
Our principles
-
Human accountability
Where a decision carries material operational, safety, compliance or financial consequences, responsibility should remain explicit.
-
Data minimization
Give the model only the information needed for the task and design access around user permissions.
-
Grounding and source evidence
Where answers depend on documents or institutional knowledge, prefer systems that can show the information used to produce the answer.
-
Evaluation before trust
A successful demo is not sufficient evidence. Test against realistic cases and known failure modes.
-
Deterministic rules where rules are better
Do not use an LLM to replace reliable business logic simply because AI is fashionable.
-
Safe failure
Model/provider failures, low-confidence outputs and unavailable dependencies should have explicit fallback paths.
-
Traceability
Record enough context to investigate what the system did where the workflow requires accountability.
-
Continuous review
AI behavior changes with data, models, prompts and user behavior. Production AI requires monitoring and iteration.
